Peter holds a first degree and master’s degree in law, a master’s degree in physical education, diplomas in physical education, school management and education and a teacher’s certificate of education. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.

He has over years qualified in several coaching awards in different sports which involve the application of safe practice principles. He has particular expertise in the teaching and management of physical education and school sport, safety standards in schools, swimming and athletics.

As a former teacher, university lecturer, local authority senior adviser/inspector and independent consultant his background in teaching physical education and related activities is extensive. A key aspect of his work for 25 years has been the development of health and safety standards in physical education and sport. He has been involved in the writing of six of the eight editions of “Safe Practice in Physical Education and School Sport” (Coachwise Ltd/Association for Physical Education), as contributor, author and editor as well as other related publications and articles on health and safety in the physical education and sport setting. “Safe Practice in Physical Education and Sport” is the only publication of its kind, addressing safe practice standards across all aspects of physical education and sport. The publication is used widely by the teaching profession, bought and used by most schools and universities in the United Kingdom as the standard text for safe practice in all aspects of physical activity.

He has tutored more than 300 professional learning courses on aspects of safe practice, risk management and health and safety standards for schools, local authorities, universities and national governing bodies of sport and has carried out many whole school and physical education safety audits.

Peter has been both President and General Secretary of the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education (baalpe) and Vice Chair of the Association for Physical Education (afPE), baalpe’s succeeding body. He is currently an independent consultant and Project Manager for Health and Safety for afPE. This professional association is the representative body for teachers of physical education, enjoys close working relationships with the Department for Education and several governing bodies of sport, dance and physical activity. It is the organisation to which education bodies, parents and professionals consult on matters relating to safe practice in all aspects of physical activity.

He is a trained expert witness (Bond Solon Training Ltd) in Courtroom Skills, Excellence in Report Writing, Cross Examination and the Single Joint Expert Role. Solicitor’s feedback on Peter’s expert witness reports have been described as excellent, clearly presented and very thorough.
